The honored and trusted name of Mid-Continent Aircraft is well known throughout the agricultural aviation industry, internationally and in the United States. We are unique because of our relative size within the industry plus the degree of vertical integration that we have successfully accomplished. Mid-Continent was created in 1949 by Richard “Dick” Reade as a custom aerial application service serving the farmers and growers of the Mid-West and Mid-South. During these early formative years Dick and his ag-pilots would actually travel through out the country and Canada providing services wherever it was needed , much like the migrant farm workers of today. This was of course a very adventuresome and demanding life style from both the physical and mental perspective, yet one that the economics of the era required if these pioneers in Ag-Aviation were to enjoy success. Dick was of course one of these who got his start in aviation as a P-38 pilot in WWII and to this day remains active in the business as it’s President and Chairman of the Board. Dick was one of a select group of visionaries who saw the need for the creation of a Professional Association whose primary function or mission was to gain recognition of and promote the interests of Aerial Application. In conjunction with the promotion of Aerial Application the association wanted to improve the stature of the applicator himself, the services they provided and their contribution toward making the U.S the bread basket of the world. This vision resulted in the formation of the National Applicators Association in 1967 and Dick was recognized for his contribution and leadership capability by being elected the association’s first President. Over the years Mid-Continent has evolved onto a diversified organization serving both the general and agricultural industry. From it’s inception the company has maintained and emphasis on the promotion and growth of Aerial Application and the members of this industry. During our long history we have operated large fleets of fixed wing and roto-craft equipment, ranging from the Stearman in the 40’s & 50’s, the Ag-Cat in the 60’s, 70’s & 80’s, Bell Helicopters in the 80’s to our current fleet of turboprop powered Thrush Aircraft. The ever present link to the Aerial Applicator allows us to better understand the industry and to offer solutions to the problems within the industry. We have prided ourselves in being a progressive organization yet one who fully understands its roots and the contribution these roots have made in the betterment of life itself for the entire world. Mid-Continent remains a leading force in today’s agricultural aviation industry with an unsurpassed ability and desire to provide aircraft, aircraft spare parts, aircraft maintenance, aircraft support equipment, and aviation insurance. We take great pride in the accomplishments achieved but more importantly we are looking toward the future with an unwavering commitment to the industry and to those who can proudly say they are a member of this small but powerful fraternity of PROFESSIONAL AERIAL APPLICATORS. We want the opportunity to serve every operator and look forward to talking or visiting with each and every member of this great industry.
